A bespoke fragrance is the most personal thing you can wear. It is built around your memories, your taste and the way you want to be remembered, and nobody else in the world smells quite like it. At Mahasutra we compose every formula in-house, from the first conversation to the final bottle, drawing on the same oils, resins and rare botanicals that shape our own collections.

Why commission a bespoke scent

Off-the-shelf perfume is designed to please as many people as possible. A bespoke scent is designed to please one person, one couple or one brand. It can recall a place you love, a flower from a childhood garden or the feeling of a particular evening, and translate it into a composition that sits naturally on your skin and in your climate.

Because we formulate everything ourselves, we can work with materials that rarely appear in mainstream perfumery: aged oud, Mysore-style sandalwood, champaca, osmanthus, frankincense, benzoin and black tea accords, alongside fresh citrus and green notes that perform well in tropical heat.

Private label and co-created products

Your own perfume, body care or home fragrance line, formulated by our team and finished in your packaging. Suitable for retailers, wellness studios, designers and creators.

Formats and finishing touches

  • Parfum absolute: pure perfume oil with no added alcohol, in a 30ml roll-on. Intimate, long-lasting and ideal for warm climates.
  • Eau de parfum: a high-concentration spray in 50ml or 100ml, with more projection and a fuller trail.
  • Home fragrance: room and fabric spray, reed diffuser oil, lava stones, ceramic diffusers and candles in your scent.
  • Body care: cleanser, body emulsion and hand care scented with your fragrance, so it lasts longer on the skin.
  • Personalisation: custom labels, printed or engraved names, bespoke boxes and handwritten cards.

How it works

  1. Enquiry. Tell us what you would like to create, who it is for, your timeline and an approximate budget.
  2. Consultation. We send a short scent questionnaire, then talk through the fragrances you love and dislike, the memories or mood you want to capture, and where and when it will be worn. Consultations can take place online or by appointment.
  3. Scent brief. We summarise the direction in writing: the olfactive family, key notes, intensity and formats, so you know exactly what we are developing.
  4. First samples. Our perfumer composes a set of trial samples exploring different interpretations of your brief, and sends them to you to wear for a few days.
  5. Refinement. You share your impressions and we adjust the formula, balancing notes, strength and longevity. Most projects reach the final scent within two or three rounds.
  6. Finalisation. We confirm the formula, check its performance and stability, and agree packaging, labelling and quantities.
  7. Production and delivery. Your fragrance is blended, matured, bottled and packed by hand, then shipped to you anywhere in the world.
  8. Reorders. Your formula is kept on file, so you can reorder the same scent or add new formats at any time.

Timelines and investment

A personal perfume usually takes four to six weeks from consultation to finished bottles. Brand and event scents, and projects with custom packaging, typically take six to ten weeks. If you have a fixed date, such as a wedding or launch, tell us at the start and we will plan backwards from it.

Every commission is quoted individually. The price depends on the concentration and materials in the formula, the number of refinement rounds, the formats you choose and the quantity produced. After your consultation we send a clear written quote before any development begins.

Confidentiality and ownership

Your brief, your formula and your project details are treated as confidential. A bespoke formula created for you is not sold to anyone else. For brands that need exclusive rights to a signature scent, we can agree exclusivity terms as part of the project.

How long does a bespoke perfume take?

Most personal perfumes take four to six weeks. Brand scents and projects with custom packaging typically take six to ten weeks. We confirm the timeline in your quote.

Do I need to know about perfume to commission one?

Not at all. You only need to tell us what you like and how you want to feel. Our questionnaire and consultation translate that into a perfumer's brief.

Can you recreate a perfume I already love?

We create original compositions rather than copies of other brands. A fragrance you love is a very useful reference, though, and we can build a new scent that captures what you enjoy about it.

Can I order just one bottle?

Yes. Personal commissions can be produced as a single bottle or a small set. Brand, event and private label projects are quoted on the quantities you need.

Will anyone else be able to buy my scent?

No. Bespoke formulas are made only for the client who commissioned them, and are kept confidential on file for your reorders.

Can I add candles, room spray or body care in my scent?

Yes. Most fragrances can be adapted into home fragrance and body care formats, so your scent can extend to your home, venue or guest experience.
